Sailaway – Low Isles Afternoon & Sunset

A later start. A quieter island. A sunset you will not forget.

The Sailaway Afternoon and Sunset Low Isles tour is the unhurried alternative to a full day on the reef. You check in at 12.30pm, sail out to Low Isles when the crowds have thinned, snorkel the coral gardens with a marine biologist, explore the island, and then sail back to Port Douglas as the sun drops behind the Daintree mountains. Beverages are included for the return sail. It is a complete afternoon and evening in one.

This tour runs from 1.00pm to 6.30pm and is suitable for all ages. The minimum age is 13 years.

About the Tour

Low Isles is a small coral cay island sitting about 15 kilometres off the coast of Port Douglas. The reef surrounding it supports 150 species of hard coral and 15 species of soft coral, with green turtles sighted in the lagoon on most days. The island itself has a working lighthouse built in 1878 and a history of scientific research dating back to 1928.

The afternoon tour arrives on the island after the morning rush has departed, giving you a quieter, more relaxed experience. You have roughly two hours on the island before the sail home.

What Happens on the Day

Sailaway uses Lagoon 500 sailing catamarans for this tour. The crossing takes approximately one hour each way. On the island, your time is unstructured: you can snorkel the coral gardens with a guided tour led by a marine biologist, take a glass bottom boat ride over the reef, join the Island Nature Walk with an experienced guide, or simply sit under a palm tree on the beach.

The return sail is where the afternoon becomes something else. As the catamaran heads back toward Port Douglas, the sun sets over the Coral Sea and the Daintree mountains. Complimentary sundowners are served on board, beer, wine and champagne, alongside a selection of canapés.
