Reef Sprinter offers half-day Great Barrier Reef snorkelling tours from Port Douglas Marina, travelling at 80km/h on purpose-built speedboats with a maximum of 14 passengers. You spend your morning or afternoon on the water and still have half a day free.
Three tour options are available to book through the Cayman Villas tour desk.
All tours include: snorkelling equipment, stinger suits (November to May), wetsuits (June to October), prescription masks, life jackets if required, and a complimentary bottle of water. All tours depart from 44 Wharf Street, Port Douglas Marina. Check in 30 minutes prior to departure.
Option A – Low Isles Reef Snorkelling Tour
The quickest and most sheltered reef experience available from Port Douglas. You travel just 15 minutes by speedboat to the Low Isles reef, snorkel for up to 1.5 hours in calm, protected water, and return with half your day still ahead of you. Colourful fish, healthy coral in the deeper water, and a strong chance of spotting green sea turtles. A glass bottom boat is also available on demand, making this a good option for non-swimmers.
Reef Sprinter holds one of only a few exclusive permits to access this World Heritage green zone site, so there are no crowds at the mooring.

Option B – Low Island Lagoon Snorkelling Tour
This tour gets you onto Low Island itself, not just the reef. After a 15-minute speedboat ride, you transfer across to the island on the glass bottom boat and have around 2.5 hours to snorkel from the beach, walk the island, or simply relax. The lagoon is very sheltered and shallow close to shore, making it ideal for young children and first-time snorkellers. Turtles are commonly seen here.
Reef Sprinter holds one of only four exclusive moorings that permit access to the island. Morning departures arrive before the crowds; afternoon departures arrive as they leave.

Option C – Outer Great Barrier Reef Snorkelling Tour
The only half-day outer reef tour available from Port Douglas. You travel 40 minutes at speed to a private snorkelling site next to Opal Reef, one of the most spectacular sections of the Outer Barrier Reef, and spend 1.5 hours in the water before heading back in time for lunch. Visibility averages 25 metres, with large corals, bigger fish, and a wider variety of marine life than the inner reef sites.
Maximum 14 passengers, so the experience stays personal throughout.
| Duration | 3.5 hours total (1.5 hours snorkelling) |
| Minimum age | 7 years |
| Availability | Weather and numbers dependent — does not run every day |
| Best for | Confident swimmers, experienced snorkellers, those wanting the full outer reef experience |
