Two of Australia’s greatest natural wonders sit on Cayman Villas’ doorstep. The Great Barrier Reef is out front. The ancient Daintree Rainforest is behind you. This full-day tour from Down Under Tours takes you deep into both — and it departs right from Port Douglas.
Reef and Rainforest Connections, now part of the Down Under Tours family, has been running eco-certified day tours from Port Douglas for many years. The Cape Tribulation, Daintree and Mossman tour is their flagship product: a full day through World Heritage rainforest, along the Daintree River, and onto the tropical beach where the reef meets the rainforest at Cape Tribulation.
Advanced Eco Certified — this tour is recognised as one of Australia’s leading ecotourism experiences, operating with minimal environmental impact and a genuine commitment to conservation.
What to Expect on the Day
Pick-up from Port Douglas is at 8.15am. From there, your professional driver/guide takes you north through the rainforest landscapes of Tropical North Queensland. The day covers six distinct highlights, all included in the price.
Mossman Gorge
Your first stop is the Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre for morning tea, followed by a guided walk through one of the world’s oldest tropical rainforests. Your guide shares the ecology and stories of this remarkable place — the crystal-clear waters, the ancient ferns, the fig trees with their buttressed roots. The walk is easy grade and under 1 kilometre return.
Daintree River Cruise
A one-hour cruise on the Daintree River gives you a close-up look at the wildlife that calls this environment home: birds, tree snakes, unique plants, and the estuarine crocodile. Your guide explains the ecology of the mangroves and the significance of this ancient waterway.
Tropical Lunch at Heritage Lodge
Lunch is served at Heritage Lodge, set in the rainforest overlooking the crystal-clear waters of Cooper Creek. A full tropical meal, included in your tour price.
Cape Tribulation Beach
The centrepiece of the day. Stand on a tropical beach where the Daintree Rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef — two World Heritage areas side by side. It is one of the most remarkable landscapes on earth, and one of the few places in the world where two UNESCO World Heritage sites share a shoreline.
Daintree Ice Cream Company
A cup of exotic fruit ice cream made from fruit grown on-site. Gluten-free and dairy-free options are available.
Alexandra Lookout
A spectacular panoramic view over the Daintree River estuary, Snapper Island, and out to the Coral Sea. The perfect final stop before the return to Port Douglas, arriving at approximately 5.00pm.
