Port Douglas Markets

One of the best things about a stay in Port Douglas is how quickly you feel like a local. The markets are a big part of that. Whether you are after fresh tropical fruit for breakfast, a handmade piece of jewellery to take home, or simply a slow morning with good coffee and a browse, the markets in and around Port Douglas deliver.

Here is a rundown of the markets worth putting in your calendar, from the iconic Sunday market right in town to the rainforest village of Kuranda.

Tip: Most markets run in the morning and wind down by early afternoon. Get there early for the best produce and to beat the heat.

Port Douglas Sunday Market

When: Every Sunday
Time: Approximately 7:30am to 1pm
Where: Anzac Park, Port Douglas

The Sunday Market at Anzac Park is the one you plan your weekend around. Running every Sunday morning from around 7:30am to 1pm, it sits right in the heart of Port Douglas along the waterfront, which makes it as much a walk as a shop.

The market draws a solid mix of locals and visitors, and the stalls reflect that. You will find everything from freshly picked tropical fruit and locally grown vegetables to handmade soaps, artisan jewellery, paintings, ceramics, and clothing. There are usually food stalls too, so if you have not had breakfast, you are sorted.

What to look for:

  • Fresh tropical produce: mangoes, papaya, starfruit, and locally grown herbs

  • Handmade jewellery and accessories from local artisans

  • Original artwork and photography inspired by the reef and rainforest

  • Homemade jams, chutneys, and baked goods

  • Clothing, hats, and beachwear

Anzac Park is a short stroll from Cayman Villas, so you can walk down, grab a coffee, fill a bag with fresh fruit, and be back at the pool before the day heats up. Bring cash as not all stalls have card facilities, and a reusable bag for your produce.

Mossman Markets

When: Every Saturday
Time: Approximately 7am to 1pm
Where: Under the Raintrees on Foxton Avenue, Mossman

A 20-minute drive north of Port Douglas, Mossman is a proper sugar cane town with a relaxed, community feel that comes through clearly at its Saturday markets. Held at George Davis Park in the town centre, the Mossman Markets are smaller and quieter than the Port Douglas Sunday Market, which is exactly their appeal.

Expect local produce straight from nearby farms, handmade goods, and the kind of friendly conversation with stallholders that you do not get at a shopping centre. It is a great excuse to combine a morning at the markets with a visit to the Mossman Gorge, which is only a few minutes from town. The gorge is one of the most beautiful spots in Far North Queensland, and pairing the two makes for a full and rewarding morning out.

Kuranda Markets

Heritage Markets

When: Wednesday – Sunday
Time: 10am to 3:30pm
Where: Kuranda Village

Original Rainforest Market

When: Monday – Sunday
Time: 10am to 3pm
Where: Kuranda Village

Kuranda is in a category of its own. Perched in the rainforest about an hour south of Port Douglas, this village has been home to a thriving arts and crafts market scene since the 1970s. The markets are open most days of the week, and the range of stalls is genuinely impressive: handmade jewellery, leather goods, local art, tropical clothing, crystals, ceramics, and food from around the world.

What makes Kuranda special is not just the markets but the journey. You have two iconic ways to get there:

  • Kuranda Scenic Railway – one of Australia’s great train journeys, winding through rainforest and past waterfalls from Cairns

  • Skyrail Rainforest Cableway – a gondola ride over the rainforest canopy with spectacular views down to the coast

Most visitors do one on the way up and the other on the way back, which turns a market visit into a full-day experience. If you are travelling with children, this is one of the most memorable days out in Far North Queensland.

The markets themselves sit across two main sites in the village: the Kuranda Original Rainforest Market and the Kuranda Heritage Markets. Both are worth a walk through.
