The Carnivale weekend is being held from the 20-22 May 2016 and is expected to be the biggest and greatest yet with a bunch of new and exciting events as well as the original festival favourites!

Watch locals and visitors alike flock to Port Douglas to celebrate the start of the tourism season. There really is something for everyone at this highly anticipated event including arts, entertainment, sports, food & wine, comedy, culture and music.

Carnival 2016 will introduce a new festival hub and main attraction – the Wonderful Spiegeltent, which will kick off prior to the Carnivale weekend on the 12th May and continue until the 22nd. The classic circus tent has been imported from Belgium and features 20th century decor. The Wonderful Spiegeltent will feature a variety of entertainment including:

  • Cabaret Circus spectacular by Limbo
  • Comedic performances by Jimeoin
  • Musical performances by the eccentric Kransky Sisters 
  • Blues rockers Lloyd Spiegel and Big Daddy Wilson 
  • And much more!

Watch Macrossan Street come alive with the annual street parade on Friday the 20th of May which kicks off the festivities! This years theme is ‘Wonders of the Tropics Street Parade’ and viewers can expect to see fire twirlers, stilt walkers, amazing floats and more!

Come and tantalise your tastebuds with an impressive display of local fresh seafood, produce and meats matched with delicious wines at the ‘Paradise on a Plate’ long lunch on Friday the 20th May.

We’ve also got kids entertainment covered with our ‘Family Beach Day Party’ on Saturday the 21st of May. Come and enjoy a day of kite flying, sand castle building, entertainment from Australia’s Got Talent Bosco & Honey, art and games appropriate for the whole family to get involved in.

The well renowned food, music & wine festival ‘Port on a Fork’ is another must for any foodie! Come and eat, drink and dance under the moonlight and enjoy tropical inspired dishes with local produce from the Hinterland region. Entertainment will  be provided by the talented singer and saxaphonist Joe Camilleri and Black Sorrows – get ready to dance the night away!

The ‘Wonder of the Tropics Art Container in the Park’ will be on exhibit from the 20-22 May bringing art lovers together in a funky industrial shopping container. All artworks will be on sale so make sure to check it out and take home a memory of Carnivale weekend!

Finish off a fantastic weekend with the ‘Port Douglas Fishermans Village Seafood & Music Festival’. Sit back and relax with a tantalising array of fresh local seafood including prawns, oysters and barramundi cooked fresh off the trawler – it doesn’t get much better than that! There will also be 4 live music stages to keep you grooving featuring  Desert Blues, Dream Boogie and more.

The best way to end a jam packed weekend is then to grab a picnic blanket, some fish and chips and relax at Rex Smeal park for a gorgeous sunset and star gazing.
